A Community Celebration of Local Creativity: Artists on the Bluff Summer Arts Festival

1 day ago 0

Beyond the bustling summer art fairs, the Artists on the Bluff Summer Arts Festival offers a distinct experience in Lake Bluff. Held over the weekend on the Village Green, this 26-year tradition continues to highlight the creativity of local artists.

Among the young visitors were Remy Dobbins, Olivia Evans, and Reese Hrusovsky, all from Lake Bluff, who designed unique Father’s Day cards during the festival. This intimate and juried show showcased the talents of 29 seasoned artists from the area, featuring a variety of styles such as watercolor, acrylic, and pottery.

The Director, Alison Tompkins, emphasized the importance of connecting the community with local creators. She noted the festival included live music, local food, and activities for children, fostering a vibrant atmosphere.

“It’s especially important for our Lake Bluff community to share in what local makers are creating, and important for our artists to connect to this audience,” Tompkins remarked.

Artists like Christiane Bouret of Skokie appreciate the festival for its focus on artistic freedom. She emphasized that the event is less commercialized than others, allowing artists to stay true to their vision.

Pencil artist Phil Schorn called it a hidden gem, praising the quality and talent on display. Meanwhile, attendees Matt and Katie Frekko described the event as a delightful community gathering, with accessible, diverse artwork.

“The show feels small and intimate, easily digestible, with an assortment of artists and a sampling of contemporary artwork that doesn’t feel overwhelming,” Matt Frekko shared.

Annette Dezelen from Lake Forest values the annual festival for its unique offerings and the connections formed with artists over the years.

“I like to experience the work of our local artists, many of whom have become neighbors and friends over the years; this is a show where you’ll always find a one-of-a-kind treasure,” she said.
