The Obama Presidential Center has officially opened its doors to the public in Chicago. Former President Barack Obama aims for the center to be more than a shrine or museum. He envisions it as a depiction of an evolving American narrative.

Ali Rogin, a correspondent for PBS News Hour, explores Obama’s intention behind this new venture. She speaks with Beverly Gage, a historian from Yale University, to uncover the message conveyed through the institution.

Rogin is recognized for her comprehensive reporting on significant events. In 2021, she was awarded a Peabody Award for her coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic’s global impact on News Hour’s series. Her commendable work also earned her two Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association.

Throughout her career, Rogin has contributed to teams nominated for several Emmy Awards. These nominations include stories on the defeat of ISIS in 2020, the tragic mass shooting in Las Vegas in 2017, President Obama’s inauguration in 2014, and insights from the 2010 midterm elections.
