Jackson Lahmeyer, a Republican congressional candidate from Oklahoma, has suspended his campaign. This decision came just one day after he advanced to a runoff in the election.

Lahmeyer’s withdrawal follows a controversy involving allegations from a British tabloid. The tabloid claimed he was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a former staffer. In response to these accusations, Lahmeyer issued a statement acknowledging he had crossed a boundary through text messaging. However, he disputed the story, describing it as “distorted.”

Despite having the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, Lahmeyer chose to end his campaign. He cited a desire not to become a “distraction” as the reason for stepping down.
