Denver Broncos Linebacker Jonathon Cooper Arrested Twice in One Week

2 weeks ago 0

Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper found himself in handcuffs for the second time in one week. Authorities in Douglas County arrested Cooper, 28, on Thursday for allegedly violating a protection order.

This order followed his arrest last week on domestic violence charges. Records show Cooper and his girlfriend were both held on suspicion of two domestic violence charges and one criminal mischief count last Friday.

Cooper and his girlfriend, who have a long and tumultuous relationship, were at Cooper’s residence when an argument escalated. Allegedly, the girlfriend confronted him over suspected infidelity. She then seized his phone and threw it against the wall, the arrest affidavit states. This initiated a physical struggle for control of the phone, which Cooper reclaimed. He purportedly threatened to break her phone and asked her to leave.

When she did not leave, Cooper broke the iPhone screen in his frustration, according to the affidavit. Cooper has since pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Cooper’s history with the Broncos dates back to his drafting from Ohio State in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. Last season, he played 17 games, achieving 50 tackles and eight sacks. Across his career, he has appeared in 81 games, making 266 tackles and 31.5 sacks. In November 2024, he signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension with the team.

The Broncos expressed disappointment over Cooper’s latest arrest and mentioned the ongoing review of the situation in their statement.
