Trump Signs Legislation to Expand Child Exploitation Resources

2 weeks ago 0

President Donald Trump has signed new legislation proposed by Sen. Josh Hawley to expand resources for combating child exploitation. This measure will allocate funds to hire 200 child exploitation investigators, marking a significant increase in federal efforts.

Sen. Hawley emphasized the urgency of this initiative, stating, “I want to thank the President for leading on this vital issue. This is the largest surge against child trafficking ever by the federal government. Time is of the essence. Let’s rescue these children.” The newly signed law was included in a $70 billion reconciliation package, which also earmarks substantial funds for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol.

The Department of Homeland Security currently has only seven forensic analysts working on these cases nationwide. The new measure will invest $108.5 million specifically for child trafficking and exploitation enforcement, the largest federal investment of its kind.

“The bill provides crucial funding to domestic law enforcement investigations, combating child exploitation, continuing our work to restore law and order across our nation, and to protect America’s youth,” Trump stated in the Oval Office.

Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, who testified at a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee hearing, played a role in advocating for the bill. His testimony revealed that while 338,000 unique IP addresses in the U.S. have been linked to the distribution of child exploitation content, only a small number are investigated.

The legislation also finances 40 new forensic analysts and 30 child exploitation investigators for the Victim Identification Laboratory at Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). It allows the hiring of 130 more professionals in this field and establishes a training program to enhance collaboration among federal, state, and local law enforcement.
