The crew for NASA’s Artemis III mission will embark on their journey with a unique style. Prada has teamed up with Axiom Space to launch a new Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment (L.C.V.G.). This garment is designed for astronauts who will participate in lunar missions.
The unveiling took place at Prada’s store in SoHo, Manhattan. Axiom Space partnered with Prada to introduce this innovative suit that NASA astronauts will wear under their Extravehicular Mobility Unit spacesuit, also developed in collaboration with Prada and Axiom.
The event saw attendees served with champagne and green juice. A stage was set up amidst Prada’s luxury handbags and dresses to highlight the sleek design of the new garment. Jonathan Cirtain, CEO of Axiom Space, commented on the aesthetic appeal of the suit, noting that such terms are rarely associated with space clothing.
This collaboration began in 2023, marking the second phase with the creation of the L.C.V.G. The bodysuit is made from a proprietary blend of yarns, including titanium, featuring stirrup pants and black tubes extending along the arms and thighs. It houses tunnels that allow water to flow, cooling the astronaut’s body.
Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada’s chief marketing officer, described earlier L.C.V.G.s as resembling comfortable pajamas. This new design appears more like an advanced costume from a superhero franchise, blending functionality with a modern aesthetic.
