The U.S. Coast Guard has arrived in the Bahamas to search for Lynette Hooker, an American woman who went missing in April. The Cutter Margaret Norvell reached Hope Town after departing from Miami. Divers will search a new area 25 feet deep in the Sea of Abaco.
Hooker disappeared on April 4 while boating with her husband near Elbow Cay. Her husband, Brian Hooker, claims she fell from a dinghy at night and was swept away. Her body has not been found.
A family friend described Lynette as someone who always supported others. ‘She would help set up and clean up at parties. She was a go-to friend,’ the friend said, noting the impact on their close-knit boating community.
Authorities have seized and inspected the couple’s boat, Soulmate. The U.S. Coast Guard is examining digital devices, navigation systems, and other potential evidence.
The investigation is treated as a homicide case. Former federal prosecutor Julie Rendelman says proving charges can be difficult without a body. A conviction without clear physical evidence is complex. If found guilty, Brian Hooker could face life imprisonment under federal law.
Currently, Brian Hooker has not been charged with any crime. He was released after initial detention by Bahamian authorities.
