Rick Adelman, known for his impressive career in the NBA, has passed away at the age of 79. Adelman led teams to notable achievements throughout his 23 seasons as a coach.

His coaching career was remarkable, taking teams like the Portland Trail Blazers to the NBA Finals twice. He achieved the playoffs 16 times and secured at least 50 wins in 11 seasons. Additionally, he is one of only 11 NBA coaches to secure more than 1,000 regular-season victories.

Adelman’s journey in basketball began as a 6-foot-1 guard, starting with the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1970-71 season. He played for five NBA teams before retiring in 1975. His aspirations to coach led him to excel at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon, before joining the Trail Blazers in 1983 as an assistant coach under Jack Ramsay.

Throughout his coaching career, Adelman worked with prominent players including Clyde Drexler in Portland, Chris Webber in Sacramento, and Yao Ming in Houston.
