A young boy named Kaizer is on the road to recovery after being hit by a stray bullet while riding his bicycle outside his home in Detroit. The incident took place on Tuesday evening on Lindsay Street, close to Fargo-Oakfield Park on Detroit’s west side.
Kaizer was near the driveway and sidewalk of his home when gunfire erupted. His father described the moment Kaizer fell, thinking he had been hit by a firework instead of a bullet.
“He was screaming, ‘A firecracker hit me,'” his father recounted. “I couldn’t tell what happened at first. Then I saw blood running down his arm. I ripped my shirt off and tried to keep him calm.”
The father quickly took Kaizer to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment. Kaizer was released the following afternoon.
At a news conference on Tuesday night, Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison identified the shooter as a masked teenager. Bettison emphasized that Kaizer was an innocent bystander in a senseless act of violence. The police took the teenager into custody on Wednesday afternoon and are searching for at least one more suspect.
So far, police have not provided further details about the suspects or any potential charges, as the investigation is still ongoing.
In reflecting on the ordeal, Kaizer’s father expressed his belief in the miraculous nature of his son’s survival.
“I know God was watching over him,” he said. “I just can’t believe somebody would bring a gun to a park where innocent children are playing.”
