On Wednesday, a sixth individual was apprehended in connection with the January shooting of Judge Steven Meyer and his wife in Lafayette, Indiana. The Lafayette Police Department announced that 23-year-old Nevaeh Bell was taken into custody for her alleged involvement in the incident on January 18, which left the Tippecanoe County Superior Court Judge and his wife, Kim, injured.
Bell is facing a total of 12 preliminary felony charges, which include two counts of attempted murder and a charge of conspiracy to commit murder. The arrest follows a series of earlier detentions that were part of a “coordinated, multi-state operation,” as stated by the police. This operation included extensive investigation efforts and led to the arrest of five other individuals last month.
These individuals have been identified as Raylen Ferguson, aged 38, and Zenada Greer, aged 61, both from Kentucky, along with Indiana residents Thomas Moss, 43, Blake Smith, 32, and Amanda Milsap, 45. Authorities have accused members of a motorcycle club and a street gang of targeting Judge Meyer in an alleged scheme to interfere with a domestic abuse case against Moss. Moss is a member of the Phantom MC motorcycle club based in Detroit, which has connections with the Vice Lords street gang.
Court records indicate that Moss, who was charged with various violent felonies in June 2024, was released on bond. His trial, presided over by Judge Meyer, was scheduled to start on January 20, only two days after the shooting incident.
“There was a knock on the door, someone said they had our dog, and then a shot was fired,”
claimed the caller who reported the shooting, according to emergency dispatch recordings. Judge Meyer sustained an injury to his arm, while his wife, Kimberly, suffered a hip injury as a result of the shooting incident.
Kim Meyer expressed her gratitude last month, emphasizing the couple’s trust in the ongoing Lafayette police investigation. She also thanked the community for their support and compassion, as well as the medical staff who provided care following the incident. “We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from the community; everyone has been so kind and compassionate,” Kim said in a statement.
