Seattle Seahawks’ Defense Shines in Super Bowl LX Victory Over the New England Patriots

The Seattle Seahawks emerged victorious in Super Bowl LX with a decisive 29-13 win against the New England Patriots on Sunday night. This triumph marks the Seahawks’ first Super Bowl victory since 2013 and offers a measure of revenge after their heartbreaking 2014 season-ending loss to the Patriots due to Malcolm Butler’s infamous goal-line interception.

Unlike the high-scoring affairs of previous Super Bowls, this game was marked by intense defensive efforts from both teams. It was the Seahawks’ defense, however, that prevailed, breaking the Patriots’ offensive momentum through relentless pressure and crucial turnovers.

In the opening quarter, the Seahawks set the pace with a 33-yard field goal by Jason Myers. Though the scoring tempo slowed thereafter, the Seahawks’ defense dominated by stifling the Patriots’ advances, forcing them to punt on all five of their first-half drives.

By halftime, Myers had accumulated three field goals, securing a 9-0 lead for Seattle. Despite the narrow margin, the scoreline underscored the challenges the Patriots faced, with their offense managing just 51 total yards in the first half. Quarterback Drake Maye completed only six passes out of 11 attempts, gaining 48 yards while enduring three sacks.

Seattle’s defense was impeccable, sustaining a robust attack that prevented New England from gaining any substantial momentum.

After the halftime show by Bad Bunny, the Patriots could not capitalize on the break, continuing to struggle against Seattle’s formidable defense. A critical turn of events occurred when Derick Hall strip-sacked Maye, allowing Byron Murphy II to recover the ball at the Patriots’ 37-yard line, setting the stage for Seattle’s offensive push.

Quarterback Sam Darnold seized this opportunity by connecting with tight end A.J. Barner for a 16-yard touchdown, ensuring the game did not become the first Super Bowl without a touchdown. Despite a boost in energy which saw the Patriots score through a 35-yard touchdown pass to Mack Hollins, it couldn’t bridge the gap.

The Seahawks extended their lead through another field goal by Myers, setting a new Super Bowl record for most field goals in a single game. Moments later, Uchenna Nwosu’s defensive play resulted in a fumble recovery, which he returned for a 44-yard touchdown, effectively sealing the victory for Seattle.

Despite a late touchdown pass from Maye to Stevenson, which brought the score to 29-13, the Patriots could not mount a comeback. The Seahawks’ victory was celebrated by their fans as the team’s rigorous 2025 season efforts culminated in a triumphant performance at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Running back Kenneth Walker III led the Seahawks’ rushing attack with 135 yards on 27 carries, supplemented by receptions totaling 26 yards. Although the key player Jaxon Smith-Njigba was sidelined due to injury, Cooper Kupp stepped up with six catches for 61 yards. Meanwhile, Darnold completed the night with 202 passing yards and one touchdown.

In contrast, the Patriots’ offense was led by Maye, who threw for 295 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while being sacked six times. His struggles were compounded by a limited rushing attack, which totaled only 42 yards from Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson combined.

The Seahawks’ feat marks a milestone in the franchise’s history as they claimed victory in Super Bowl LX thanks to a robust defensive performance.
