On Wednesday, President Donald Trump reached out to Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie to express his support as both state and federal law enforcement agencies continue the investigation into the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. The president contacted Savannah after her interview with NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Llamas, assuring the Guthrie family that all necessary resources would be made available to assist in the search.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, has been missing from her home near Tucson, Arizona, since Sunday afternoon when she failed to attend church, a place she regularly visited. President Trump acknowledged Savannah’s close bond with her mother, noting the emotional challenge the family must be facing.
Expressing her gratitude, Savannah thanked President Trump for his call and the ongoing efforts of local and federal authorities tackling the case. She emphasized the family’s deep distress while also highlighting the importance of prayers during this difficult time.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department suspects that Nancy Guthrie may have been taken in the middle of the night, raising concerns about a possible kidnapping or abduction. Despite receiving numerous leads, authorities have yet to uncover any credible information suggesting that Nancy’s disappearance was a targeted event.
Authorities have not identified a suspect or person of interest in the case as of the latest statements made on Wednesday.
With the FBI now involved, around 100 detectives from the sheriff’s office are actively investigating. President Trump has committed to sending additional federal agents to support the search.
Reports indicate that Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and requires daily medication; however, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos clarified that her disappearance is unrelated to any cognitive impairments. Described as “sharp as a tack,” there is a collective belief that she remains alive. Sheriff Nanos shared with NBC News the urgency of the situation, underscoring the focus on bringing her home safely.
Daniel Arkin, a senior reporter at NBC News, provided coverage on the unfolding situation.
