President Trump Discusses Impact of Federal Efforts on Crime Reduction in Minneapolis

1 month ago 0

President Donald Trump recently spoke about the federal law enforcement efforts in Minneapolis, highlighting a significant decrease in crime rates following the detention of numerous criminals. In a conversation with Tom Llamas of NBC News, aired on Sunday, Trump emphasized that crime in Minneapolis has decreased by 25% to 30%, which he attributes to enhanced enforcement activities.

Trump stated, “The crime numbers in Minnesota, in Minneapolis in particular, are down 25, 30% because we’ve removed thousands of criminals from the area. These are hardened criminals… Most of them came in through an open border, and we’ve done a great job.”

Operation Metro Surge, a federal initiative, has deployed thousands of immigration agents to Minneapolis and St. Paul, leading to many arrests. Despite these results, it has also resulted in opposition and discontent among residents.

The President pointed out similar achievements in other major cities, citing Washington, D.C., as example. “Look at Washington, D.C.,” Trump said. “It’s like a safe city. You can walk to the White House. You don’t have to take an armored vehicle.” He also referenced New Orleans and Memphis, Tennessee.

Discussing Louisiana, Trump noted a dramatic drop in crime after federal intervention. “I got a call from the governor, ‘Please do something with New Orleans.’ We went there four weeks ago, crime is down 71%.” As for Memphis, he reported an 80% reduction in crime within five weeks.

Trump argued that these outcomes serve as evidence of his administration’s effective anti-crime strategy. “Crime, historically in this country, it’s down [to] the lowest level it’s ever been,” Trump mentioned. “… We’ve had fewer murders than we have had in decades. And you know why? Because we’re tough on crime.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed these sentiments earlier in the week, noting that murder rates in major U.S. cities have fallen to levels not seen since at least 1900, with a corresponding rise in federal arrests and deportations fulfilling Trump’s pledge to “restore law and order.”

Recently, following fatal shootings in Minneapolis, Trump announced the withdrawal of numerous federal law enforcement agents from the area, expressing a preference for a more measured approach from the Department of Homeland Security.

Tom Homan, the White House border czar, announced a planned “complete drawdown” as 700 federal agents are scheduled to leave the Twin Cities. The White House has not yet commented on this development to Fox News Digital.
