2 months ago 0

In Tucson, Arizona, a candlelight vigil was held to support NBC “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie during the troubling disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. A family friend described the event as “absolutely heart-wrenching.” Sally Shamrell, an actress and former reporter for the local KVOA station, shared with CBS News the deep connection the Guthrie family has with the Tucson community. She expressed her close bond with the family, noting that both Nancy and Savannah had been vital to the local community for over three decades.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has launched a criminal investigation into the 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. As of Wednesday, no suspects have been identified. Nancy was last seen on Saturday night at her home and was reported missing after failing to attend church the following morning, according to Sheriff Chris Nanos.

In a show of solidarity, a service was organized at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, inspired by Savannah Guthrie’s social media plea for prayers. “Thank you for lifting your prayers for our beloved mom, a woman of deep conviction,” she shared, urging strength and hope during this difficult time. Savannah, along with her siblings Camron and Annie Guthrie, released a heartfelt video message urging for their mother’s return.

Sally Shamrell played a significant role in organizing the vigil, calling on former colleagues from KVOA to provide support. She highlighted the station’s close-knit relationship, recounting how quickly they responded to help.

The church service was broadcast online, allowing many to witness the emotional gathering as attendees placed candles on the altar. Investigating authorities suspect abduction due to signs of forced entry into Nancy’s Catalina Foothills home, along with discovery of a small amount of blood currently under examination.

Sheriff Nanos mentioned a ransom note sent to a local news station but could not verify its authenticity. Community members with any information regarding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance are encouraged to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s tip line at 520-351-4900.
