American figure skater Amber Glenn has responded to critics after she secured a gold medal in the team event at the Winter Olympics. Taking a brief hiatus from social media due to negative comments following her criticism of the Trump administration, Glenn returned to TikTok sharing pictures of herself and fellow skater Alysa Liu. Her caption addressed those who criticized her stance.
Amber Glenn’s performance in the women’s team figure skating event took place in Milan, Italy during the 2026 Winter Olympics. She provocatively wrote, “They hate to see two woke b—-es winning.” She went on to elaborate that if being ‘woke’ means advocating for marginalized communities, then she embraces the term wholeheartedly.
Glenn previously critiqued the Trump administration in a press conference before the Olympics, stating that it had been a challenging period for both her and the LGBT community. This sentiment was one of several political remarks made by U.S. athletes leading up to the Winter Olympics.
In a heartfelt moment shared on stage with Ellie Kam and Alysa Liu, Glenn expressed solidarity with the LGBTQ community, recognizing the shared struggles and emphasizing the newfound strength and support within these communities.
“It’s been a hard time for the (LGBTQ) community overall in this administration,” Glenn stated. “It isn’t the first time that we’ve had to come together as a community and try and fight for our human rights. And now especially, it’s not just affecting the queer community, but many other communities, and I think that we are able to support each other in a way that we didn’t have to before, and because of that, it’s made us a lot stronger.”
Following a surge of online backlash, Glenn chose to step away from social media for a short period.
“When I chose to utilize one of the amazing things about the United States of America (Freedom of speech) to convey how I feel as an athlete competing for Team USA in a troubling time for many Americans, I am now receiving a scary amount of hate/threats for simply using my voice WHEN ASKED about how I feel,” Glenn mentioned in a post on her Instagram Stories, which expired after being online for a limited time. She reflected on expecting such reactions but expressed disappointment over it, mentioning her decision to limit social media usage for her well-being though emphasizing her intention to continue voicing her beliefs.
Amber Glenn’s triumph on the ice is celebrated as she stands proudly with her gold medal in Milan. Her commitment to her causes resonates as she gracefully combines athletic prowess with advocacy for important societal issues.
