Controversial Claims on Homelessness Program

Former reality star and Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt has criticized the city’s handling of homelessness, focusing on Mayor Karen Bass. Kayleigh McEnany highlighted concerns regarding Bass’s homelessness program, which has reportedly spent $418 million, achieving only limited success. Pratt labeled the handling of funds as corrupt and criticized the treatment of animals on Skid Row.

Pratt’s Accusations and Campaign Momentum

Pratt accused Bass of being part of a network benefiting from the homelessness crisis. In an appearance on “Saturday in America,” he claimed Bass admitted that internal government elements resisted reform efforts. Pratt alleged that these entities profit from the crisis.

“The NGOs that are stealing billions of our tax money to increase drug addicts naked on our sidewalks. She’s complicit,” said Pratt.

The controversy originated from a CNN interview with Bass at the St. Vincent Behavioral Health Campus. Bass blamed bureaucracy and internal resistance for the slowed progress in addressing homelessness.

Bureaucratic Challenges

In her statement, Bass claimed historical inaction and internal resistance have hindered progress, noting that many within the system oppose ending street homelessness. Pratt criticized this admission, accusing the administration and NGOs of obstructing reform for profit.

“The mayor and these NGOs let seven of them die on the sidewalk a day in their own feces. So, yeah, these people are evil,” Pratt asserted.

Pratt’s Mayoral Campaign

Pratt, who announced his candidacy in January, aims to introduce greater oversight of the homeless crisis. He promised full accountability and transparency in spending tax money.

“Why I will be one of the most successful mayors in the history of the country is because I’m [going to] have full accountability and transparency for every dollar of our tax money,” Pratt declared.

Pratt rose to attention following comments after the Palisades Fire and has gained support through viral campaign ads and debate performances.

Election Law Allegations

This week, Pratt accused Bass of illegal electioneering by campaigning too close to a voting location. California law prohibits campaigns within 100 feet of ballot boxes. Bass’s spokesperson refuted the claim, asserting the distance rules were observed during filming for a campaign video.

“His complaint is blatantly false,” said spokesperson Alex Stack.
