A man from New Jersey has been apprehended following allegations of assaulting two Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers during a protest outside a detention center in Newark. The demonstration, which has drawn significant attention, has been ongoing for over a week.

Brendan John Geier, aged 26, from Madison, New Jersey, faces charges of assaulting federal officers and causing bodily harm. The Department of Justice (DOJ) reported the incident occurred near the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark.

“Peaceful protest doesn’t translate to violently attacking federal law enforcement officers.”

This statement was made by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche in response to the arrested agitators outside the detention facility.

Nine individuals faced arrest during clashes with federal agents. The Department of Homeland Security stated that confrontations have led agents to deploy pepper spray and use crowd-control measures. Tensions have been high, with reports of protesters allegedly blocking access roads.

According to DOJ accounts, Geier reportedly engaged in a physical altercation with officers, resulting in one being bitten on the arm and another on the knuckle during security operations outside the facility.
