The Trump administration has announced a significant change to immigration policy. This adjustment requires most foreigners applying for green cards to do so from outside the United States. This marks a departure from previous practices where many applicants filed while residing in the U.S. on temporary visas.
Immigration lawyers express concerns that this change could impact hundreds of thousands annually. Each year, a large number of individuals on temporary visas apply for green cards within the United States.
The announcement was made by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Joseph Edlow at the agency’s headquarters in Camp Springs, Maryland. This move is seen as part of the administration’s broader strategy to limit legal migration.
