Steve Hilton, running for governor of California, joined ‘Fox & Friends’ to highlight the state’s pressing issues of homelessness and drug crises. He cautioned against a potential Democratic Socialists of America influence and criticized his rival Xavier Becerra. Hilton argued the existing policies fail Californians and stressed the need for political change before the upcoming election.
The California Post’s endorsement of Hilton emphasizes his dynamic campaign. He has proposed tax rebates, letting Californians exempt income taxes up to $150,000. Hilton has criticized the Democrats’ policies, claiming they make California unaffordable after 16 years of unchallenged governance. He advocates reducing fuel prices by eliminating high gas taxes and costly ‘green energy’ policies, which he says burden household budgets without environmental benefits.
On housing, Hilton urges a return to single-family homes rather than developing high-rise buildings. He has also addressed transgender rights, advocating for parental awareness and defending girls in sports.
Despite challenges, Hilton has been active across California, even visiting areas like Skid Row to highlight Sacramento’s longstanding policy issues. His opponent, Xavier Becerra, faced criticism even from within his party. Some former Obama aides were concerned about Becerra’s advance to the general election, with Susan Rice openly criticizing him.
Becerra’s political career has been critiqued as unremarkable, with positions as attorney general and Health and Human Services secretary marked by minimal achievements. The stakes for California are high, with the economy in decline despite its size. Poverty and homelessness lead national statistics, and businesses, particularly in Hollywood, are leaving the state.
Hilton argues that political extremism has eroded the California dream. Riots have damaged major urban areas, and socialists aim for control. Wildfires annually destroy vast areas, negating emissions progress and harming homeowners. Government fraud abounds alongside out-of-control spending.
California’s infrastructure is deteriorating, schooling is inadequate, and political inertia dominates Sacramento. The impending election offers voters a choice between Hilton’s reform proposals and Becerra’s promise of continuity. As Becerra remarked in a debate, repeating the same actions expecting different outcomes aligns with insanity.
California’s voters face a significant decision this year.
