ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays are headed to the World Series after defeating the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series. Their victory marks the third pennant for the franchise in its 29-year history.

Junior Caminero and Yandy Díaz both played a pivotal role, each hitting two-run homers. Díaz’s assurance of victory, delivered through an interpreter, was backed up by his performance, with his eighth-inning homer giving the Rays a solid lead. “Yandy had a claim to back and he did his part,” remarked Erik Neander, President of Baseball Operations for the Rays. His contribution was vital in securing the team’s first World Series appearance since the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Freddy Peralta, named ALCS MVP, pitched 5 1/3 gritty innings, allowing just one run and five hits, earning his second win in the series. Peralta was a key asset for the Rays since being acquired from the New York Mets before the trade deadline. His outstanding performance included six scoreless innings in Game 2 and critical relief in Game 4.

“This is not only mine. We all earned this. This is for the boys,” said Peralta, acknowledging the collective effort of the team.

The Rays will face the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night in Milwaukee for Game 1 of the World Series. Both teams are vying for their first World Series title since 1980.

Rays Manager Kevin Cash encouraged the team saying, “We got one more bite!”

The sellout crowd of 40,230 at Tropicana Field was vibrant, cheering and waving rally towels. The stadium, which underwent renovations after Hurricane Milton, proved an energetic venue for the Rays’ triumph.

The Rays overcame an initial series deficit against the Guardians, winning three consecutive games to clinch the championship. Caminero expanded their lead with his first career postseason homer, sending a ball off the left-field foul pole. Jubilating with the crowd, Caminero later invited the former Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena to join the team in Milwaukee for the World Series.

On the opposing side, Guardians manager Stephen Vogt voiced his pride in his team despite the defeat, highlighting the resilience and determination they showed throughout the series.

As the Rays celebrated this significant achievement, the franchise continues to build towards more success, with a new stadium deal secured for 2029.
