Ex-Husband of Former First Lady Jill Biden Charged with Murder

William Stevenson, once married to former first lady Jill Biden, has been arrested and charged with the murder of his current wife, Linda Stevenson. The 77-year-old was taken into custody and faces a first-degree murder charge following an indictment by a grand jury in Delaware. This development was confirmed by officials on Tuesday.

The incident traces back to December 28, when New Castle County police responded to a domestic dispute at a residence in the Wilmington area. Linda Stevenson was discovered unresponsive in the living room, and despite efforts by officers to revive her, she passed away at the scene. Her body was subsequently referred to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy.

Linda Stevenson, who was 64 years old, was remembered in her obituary as being deeply devoted to her family and a passionate supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles. Additionally, she had established a small bookkeeping business in the later years of her life.

The cause of Linda’s death was not disclosed in the indictment or press release regarding William Stevenson’s arrest. However, police highlighted that the indictment followed a thorough, weeks-long investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

William Stevenson was subsequently detained at the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post a $500,000 cash bail. At this time, it remains uncertain whether he has legal representation. Neither former President Joe Biden nor Jill Biden has commented on these events.

Jill Biden, known then as Jill Tracy Jacobs, married William Stevenson in February 1970 when she was a student at the University of Delaware. The marriage lasted five years, during which Stevenson founded The Stone Balloon Club, a renowned college bar in Newark, Delaware. Renowned artists like Bruce Springsteen and Dave Matthews performed there over the years. Jill and William Stevenson divorced in May 1975, following which Jill met then-senator Joe Biden.
