Elon Musk: The Fifth Musketeer in Modern Geopolitics

1 hour ago 0

In the 17th century, Alexandre Dumas introduced readers to ‘The Three Musketeers,’ a tale set in France featuring Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and the young d’Artagnan. These characters, with their famous motto ‘one for all and all for one,’ battled against the villainous Cardinal Richelieu. Today, a new and formidable Musketeer emerges: Elon Musk. Unlike the original quartet, Musk wields financial might estimated at nearly a trillion dollars. If he were a nation, he would place 23rd in global GDP rankings. This financial prowess places him among the most powerful individuals in America, possibly surpassing the influence of the president.

Consider Musk’s potential impact on the upcoming November elections. He plans to contribute close to half a billion dollars in support of Republican candidates. This significant investment increases his political influence, especially if those candidates achieve electoral success. Musk frequently visits the White House and received recognition from President Donald Trump for his contributions.

Musk’s influence extends beyond U.S. politics. He possesses the unique capability to affect global affairs, including the ongoing war in Ukraine. Recently, Musk withheld Starlink’s Starshield, disrupting Ukraine’s military capabilities. Without viable alternatives, Ukraine faces significant challenges. These actions provide Musk leverage over Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, potentially pushing him towards accepting unfavorable peace terms with Moscow. Previously, Trump signaled support for Moscow, purchasing Russian diesel fuel that funds the war effort against Kyiv. Restricting Starlink’s services could significantly impact Ukraine’s strategic position.

Musk’s potential to influence international relations goes further. In the conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, Musk could achieve notable impacts with his resources. In recent years, Mohammed bin Salman arrested 400 of Saudi Arabia’s wealthiest families, fueling resentment. If Musk chose to support the Houthis financially, it could destabilize Saudi Arabia’s leadership. While parallels to Iran’s 1953 political overthrow exist, any action Musk takes has consequences, notably for Jared Kushner’s venture fund, backed by bin Salman.

Imagine a future scenario in 2028 where Musk pursues political office. Though foreign-born, Musk might humorously claim eligibility in reference to the ‘Union of South Africa.’ While the Constitution bars him from the presidency, potential vice-presidential candidacy remains. His robust financial backing could appeal to candidates searching for support, ushering unprecedented influence similar to John Pierpont Morgan, who historically steered America through financial crises.

Musk’s endeavors with Tesla, SpaceX, and future ventures position him among the world’s most influential figures. His potential alliances with leaders like China’s President Xi Jinping or Russia’s Vladimir Putin could redefine global politics, challenging the state-based system. Musk purchasing a small country introduces endless possibilities.

As a modern Musketeer, Musk stands apart, embodying a unique version of ‘one for all and all is for him.’
