The Arkansas Razorbacks are set for a rigorous start to the college basketball season. Head Coach John Calipari expressed his thoughts on the demanding schedule at the SEC Basketball Tipoff event in Birmingham, Alabama. Calipari humorously remarked that he must have been “on crack” while arranging the games due to their challenging nature.
Calipari emphasized that part of his role is to teach his team how to win and compete in tough situations. “Our schedule is ridiculous,” he said, highlighting the tough lineup of games. The Razorbacks begin their season with Virginia, followed by Michigan State, and then a match against Arizona in Phoenix. They also face Indiana in New York, with Calipari noting Indiana is tougher than he anticipated.
While the initial game might seem daunting, Arkansas actually opens the season against Arkansas Pine-Bluff on November 3 before facing Virginia in Washington, D.C. Additionally, the Razorbacks will play against Indiana and Michigan State at neutral venues. Arkansas’ only true road game before SEC play is against North Carolina on December 1 in Chapel Hill.
The preseason media poll predicts Arkansas to finish third in the SEC, behind Florida and Texas. Calipari’s former team, Kentucky, is expected to finish seventh. As he enters his third year coaching the Razorbacks, Calipari looks to continue his success, having led the team to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament for two consecutive seasons.
The Razorbacks will need to adapt without last season’s star, Darius Acuff Jr., who was drafted seventh overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2026 NBA Draft.
