U.S., Ukraine, and Russia Agree to Major Prisoner Exchange Amid Peace Talks

The United States’ special presidential envoy for peace, Steve Witkoff, announced a significant agreement on Thursday involving the exchange of hundreds of prisoners. Representatives from the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia have reached a consensus to exchange 314 prisoners, marking the first such swap in five months.

Witkoff detailed this development in a Thursday post on X, emphasizing, “This outcome was achieved from peace talks that have been detailed and productive. While significant work remains, steps like this demonstrate that sustained diplomatic engagement is delivering tangible results and advancing efforts to end the war in Ukraine.”

The discussions are ongoing, and Witkoff expressed optimism about further progress in the upcoming weeks. He also extended gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for hosting these negotiations and recognized President Donald J. Trump’s leadership as being crucial in making this agreement possible.

Under President Trump’s administration, there has been a concerted effort to mediate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. In recent developments, Trump mentioned discussing the “War between Russia/Ukraine” during a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, reflecting the multifaceted international efforts underway.

Adding another dimension to the unfolding situation, Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina called on President Trump to initiate processes to supply Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles, viewing this as a potential military game changer.

In his latest statements, Graham emphasized the importance of exerting pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin. He warned against negotiations that might seem to support aggression, suggesting that a positive outcome would be a strong, independent Ukraine. “If negotiations result in a free, strong, and independent Ukraine — even with some concessions — then the world will be far more stable,” Graham asserted.
