Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith continues to prove critics wrong with his outstanding performances this season. In a recent game against Iowa, Smith delivered a stunning performance by recording 11 receptions for 206 yards and two touchdowns. This contributed to Ohio State’s 31-14 victory.
This achievement marked Smith’s second consecutive game with over 200 receiving yards and his third game this season with at least two touchdowns. His performance silenced former critics, including college football analyst and former Georgia defensive end David Pollack. Pollack, who had previously questioned Smith’s abilities, issued a public apology after the game.
“Jeremiah Smith, I apologize. I was wrong; you were right. Everyone else is smart; I’m stupid. He’s the best player in college football. It’s very clear,” Pollack stated.
Smith’s excellence on the field has not gone unnoticed. This season, he became Ohio State’s career leader in receptions, receiving touchdowns, and receiving yards. Pollack explained his earlier skepticism was primarily due to constant praise of Smith that he eventually found overwhelming. However, he now acknowledges that such praise is well-deserved.
For the season, Smith leads the nation with 44 receptions and 823 receiving yards. His nine touchdowns are tied with Oregon State’s Jesse Legree. As a result, Smith is currently the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. His exceptional performances have helped Ohio State achieve a 4-1 record, maintaining their position in the national championship discussion.
Smith will look to further enhance his impressive statistics as Ohio State faces the reigning national champion Indiana on Saturday, Oct. 17. This game presents an opportunity for revenge against the Hoosiers.
