Documentary Success Validates Brett Ratner as ‘MELANIA’ Triumphs

2 months ago 0

Brett Ratner, known for his work in Hollywood, is experiencing what he describes as “undeniable validation” with the box office success of his first major documentary, “MELANIA.” In an interview with Fox News Digital, Ratner expressed that his sense of achievement came early, even before he began production on the film.

Ratner shared, “The validation was undeniable, but honestly, I felt like I won the moment Melania called me asking to direct the film. Meeting the president for the first time, I mentioned to him that the bullet that missed him seemed like a divine intervention, and he agreed.” Ratner considers being chosen by the first lady as his personal divine intervention, stating, “The access and opportunity I was given were beyond my wildest dreams.”

Melania Trump’s vision for the film was ambitious, as Ratner explained, “She wanted a feature filmmaker, someone who creates for the big screen, not just a documentary filmmaker. Her aim was to reach audiences beyond just a niche group, which was exciting to me.” This vision has paid off, as “MELANIA” has struck a chord with audiences despite criticism from some reviewers, and people are returning to watch it multiple times.

“People are watching the movie three or four times,” Ratner said, highlighting this enthusiastic reception. “The president shared that some friends’ wives have seen it repeatedly. I’m truly proud.”

“MELANIA” performed impressively during its opening weekend, grossing $7.1 million and securing the third spot domestically. It’s also the most successful documentary opening in over a decade. MGM Studios secured the film’s rights for $40 million and spent an additional $35 million on promotions.

Given full access, Ratner focused solely on the first lady’s role, excluding politics and stock footage. He remarked, “We’re not just telling history; we’re making history, portraying the role through her eyes.” Melania’s dedication is evident, as between filming scenes, she was engaged in significant meetings, showing her commitment to her role.

Ratner observed her compassion during film shoots, especially in disaster zones, emphasizing, “You can always tell when someone doesn’t want to be there, but on the first day, she was very present.” He described the film’s premiere at the Kennedy Center alongside the president and first lady as an unforgettable cinematic experience.

President Trump praised the film, calling it “phenomenal,” “elegant,” and “sophisticated,” expressing his pride in Ratner’s work. Trump has even suggested sharing the film with world leaders. For Ratner, “MELANIA” is an ideal comeback project as it allowed him to explore a new genre in his illustrious career. He acknowledged, “Melania saw something in my work that I hadn’t seen myself and her vision made it happen.”
