47 minutes ago 0

The Chicago White Sox secured an impressive 7-3 victory against the Houston Astros in Game 2 of the American League wild-card series, held at Daikin Park. This triumph completed a 2-0 series sweep, propelling the Sox into the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Guardians. The best-of-five series begins Saturday at Progressive Field, airing at noon on TBS.

Early in the game, the White Sox established dominance, scoring four runs in the first inning. Sam Antonacci set the tone with a double just beyond the reach of the left fielder. Kyle Teel followed with a sharp single, bringing Antonacci home. An error by third baseman Nick Allen allowed Miguel Vargas to reach base. Although Munetaka Murakami struck out, Andrew Benintendi delivered with an RBI single. An errant throw from Lucas Spence added another run, giving the Sox a 3-0 advantage.

Benintendi then scored on an RBI single from Tristan Peters, extending the lead to 4-0. This formidable start forced Astros’ starter Hunter Brown to exit the game after allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits in less than an inning.

The Astros responded quickly. Jeremy Peña hit a home run to lead off the first inning’s bottom half, trimming the Sox lead. By the second inning, Cam Smith’s homer further reduced the lead to 4-2. José Altuve’s lead-off home run in the fourth inning brought the Astros even closer at 4-3.

Despite this offensive surge, Sox starter Sean Burke managed to contain the damage, yielding three runs on four hits over four innings, with five strikeouts and no walks. Anthony Kay’s strategic introduction in the fifth inning helped navigate a tense moment when the Astros had runners on base. He successfully held off the threat, maintaining the lead.

The Sox offense temporarily stalled after their first-inning eruption, failing to get a base runner over several innings. However, they reignited in the sixth inning. Andrew Benintendi drew a walk, followed by one from Tristan Peters. Chase Meidroth then delivered a crucial three-run homer off Bryan Abreu, cementing the Sox’s 7-3 lead.

This victory marked the White Sox’s first postseason series win since they clinched the World Series in 2005, setting them on the path for another potential championship run.
