If you notice smoke near the Obama Presidential Center on Chicago’s South Side this Monday and Tuesday, there’s no need for concern. These smoke effects are part of a scheduled filming by NBC’s ‘Chicago Fire.’ The Chicago Alerts social media account notified residents about these special effects, which will occur near the Obama Center, the University of Chicago campus, and the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. Filming will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.
The Chicago Film Office clarified that this is part of a production involving a simulated rescue scene at Dorchester Avenue, located between 55th Place and 56th Street. The scene will include substantial smoke effects on the rooftop and upper floors of an apartment building on South Dorchester. The smoke will dissipate quickly, but it will be visible in nearby areas.
‘Chicago Fire’ is set to return for its 15th season on October 7 on NBC.
