Lions Overcome Jets with Gibbs’ Stellar Performance

Jahmyr Gibbs showcased his talent by scoring three touchdowns, helping the Detroit Lions secure a 31-24 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday. Gibbs initiated his scoring spree with a 17-yard touchdown run, followed by another rushing touchdown in the second half. With 2:25 left on the clock, Gibbs caught an 11-yard pass for the decisive touchdown.

Coach Dan Campbell praised Gibbs’ second-half performance, stating, “Gibbs hit another gear once we got him going.” Inspired by the presence of Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders, Gibbs delivered 99 yards on 20 carries and seven receptions for 65 yards. This effort marked him as the first NFL player to achieve over 300 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns, 150 receiving yards, and two touchdown receptions through three games.

For the Jets, Geno Smith’s efforts, including a 4-yard touchdown to Jeremy Ruckert and a 23-yard pass to Garrett Wilson, evened the score. However, the Lions exploited gaps in New York’s defense, ultimately regaining the lead. A crucial strip-sack from Chuck Clark sealed the victory when the Jets were at Detroit’s 28-yard line.

Smith completed 31 of 37 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns. Wilson recorded ten receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown but left with an injury before the final offensive play. Lions’ QB Jared Goff finished 25 of 32 for 269 yards with two touchdowns. The Lions capitalized on offensive drives, with Gibbs key to setting up a field goal early in the second quarter.

The Jets aim to rebound against the Chicago Bears, while the Lions prepare to face the Carolina Panthers.

Vikings Triumph Over Buccaneers with Defense and Special Teams

The Minnesota Vikings, now 3-0, defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-16 in a game highlighting both defense and special teams. A pivotal moment came as Myles Price returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown. Additionally, QB Kyler Murray threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Addison. Despite missing two-time All-Pro Justin Jefferson due to an ankle injury, the Vikings maintained their edge.

Murray, recovering from a concussion earlier in the season, completed 15 of 29 passes for 168 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Kirk Cousins, in previous games, led the Vikings to two victories.

Bucs QB Baker Mayfield, plagued with penalties and sacks, went 17 of 34 for 217 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. A potentially game-changing 85-yard touchdown pass was nullified by a holding penalty. Despite multiple setbacks, the Bucs managed to secure a field goal, drawing within one point in the closing quarter.

Left guard Ben Bredeson faced his brother, Vikings rookie Max Bredeson. Both hail from Michigan, with another sibling, Jack, involved with the New York Mets. The Vikings host the Miami Dolphins next week, while the Buccaneers are set to meet the Green Bay Packers.
