The National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), under the direction of Music Director Gianandrea Noseda, inaugurated its new season with an opening-night performance at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, Maryland. This marks a shift for the orchestra, which will perform at various venues throughout the region amid the ongoing closure of the Kennedy Center.
On Saturday evening, before performing any music, the NSO received a heartfelt standing ovation from the audience. This enthusiastic reception took place at the Strathmore, a suburban venue situated just north of the Capital Beltway. The prolonged closure of the Kennedy Center, a result of significant management issues under President Donald Trump’s administration, has left the orchestra without a permanent home.
For at least the upcoming year, the NSO will engage in an extensive schedule of touring and perform at six different venues across the region. The orchestra’s commitment to delivering outstanding performances continues despite the challenges posed by the Kennedy Center’s closure.
