Israel’s U.N. Ambassador’s Viral Video Reaches Iranian Audience

A video of Israel’s U.N. ambassador offering a Starlink device to an Iranian representative has gained major traction on social media, amassing around 9 million views. Notably, nearly 40% of these views on Instagram are from Iran, according to analytics shared with Fox News Digital.

An Israeli Ambassador, Danny Danon, was surprised by the video’s reach in Iran. Such engagement is uncommon for Israeli diplomatic accounts.

The Encounter

The interaction stemmed from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at the U.N. General Assembly. During his address, Netanyahu presented a Starlink device aimed at Iranian citizens. Afterward, he instructed Danon to offer the device to the Iranian delegation. Although an Iranian representative declined the offer, the moment was captured on video.

Danon shared the video online, where it quickly went viral. Instagram analytics revealed that 39.9% of viewers were from Iran, the largest audience by country. The next largest groups were from the U.S. at 14.3%, Israel at 12.6%, Canada at 5.9%, and Germany at 4.1%.

Significance of Iranian Audience

Danon’s office noted the substantial Iranian viewership, considering the video’s message promoting freedom and freedom of expression for Iranians.

Disinformation Challenge

Meanwhile, a different trend emerged. The office noticed an uptick in the circulation of an older video of former Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan being escorted from the General Assembly. This incident, from September 2023, featured Erdan protesting against then-Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi by showing a photograph of Mahsa Amini.

Recent reposts of this outdated video depicted it as a current event involving Israel’s ambassador, drawing significant views. Danon’s office views this as a “disinformation campaign” attempting to shift focus away from Danon’s viral video.

The representative noted that the Danon video seems to have resonated within Iran, prompting the Iranian regime to redirect the narrative.
