UMass Dartmouth Football Player Stabbed in Providence

A tragic incident unfolded in Providence, Rhode Island, where a University of Massachusetts Dartmouth football player lost his life and another was wounded in a stabbing. Police reported that the altercation took place early Saturday.

The deceased, Marvins Antoine, an 18-year-old freshman running back, was stabbed after visiting a nightclub called Mezzo Lounge with his teammates. Providence Police noted that the altercation began at the nightclub and continued into a parking lot of a nearby Wendy’s.

Antoine suffered fatal wounds to the chest and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Kensley Macean, a fellow freshman defensive back, sustained injuries to his head, neck, and arm considered non-life-threatening. He was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

During a news conference, Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez announced the arrest of Chukuwnonoso Uzoma Eze, another UMass Dartmouth student. Eze, 19, faces murder charges and is not associated with the football team. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the altercation.

Chief Perez revealed that altercations initially erupted between a female and some victims waiting in line at the nightclub. Surveillance cameras helped police track Eze’s vehicle, leading to his arrest on campus.

UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Mark Fuller expressed condolences to Antoine’s family, stressing community mourning and hopes for Macean’s speedy recovery.

Antoine graduated from Durfee High School in Massachusetts. Former teammates and friends remembered him as a role model with aspirations for an NFL career. Testimonials highlighted his loyalty, peacemaking nature, and positive influence on those around him.
