Florida Plastic Surgeon Faces Trial for Allegedly Murdering Attorney

A Florida plastic surgeon, Dr. Tomasz Kosowski, stands accused of murdering attorney Steven Cozzi and disposing of the body in a dumpster. The judge will decide Kosowski’s fate, as he has waived his right to a jury trial.

Dr. Kosowski, 47, represents himself in court and maintains his innocence. His legal troubles began after a dispute with Cozzi over money allegedly owed for personal injury cases. Their conflicts escalated over years of litigation, leading Kosowski to blame Cozzi for his problems.

Hostility in Court

Records indicate that Kosowski developed a hostile attitude toward Cozzi, seeking his removal as defense counsel. During a deposition, Kosowski allegedly insulted Cozzi, causing concern among Cozzi’s acquaintances about his safety.

Disappearance and Discovery

March 21, 2023: Cozzi attended a teleconference meeting but never returned from a restroom visit, leaving personal items on his desk.

Security footage from that day captured a man, allegedly Kosowski, arriving in a silver Toyota Tundra and later leaving with a wagon covered by a reddish-orange blanket. Investigators claim Cozzi’s DNA was found on Kosowski’s property.

Search and Arrest

Authorities searched Kosowski’s vehicles, finding blood evidence, a ballistic vest, cash, passports, and other items suggestive of foul play. A syringe containing succinylcholine, labeled from Kosowski’s Miami office, was also found.

Surveillance and Evidence

Kosowski’s behavior raised suspicion, with visits to Cozzi’s home and office before the disappearance. His involvement was further implicated by cellphone tracking and surveillance footage.

Challenges in Court

At trial, Kosowski attempted to suppress evidence and challenged DNA testimony. His motions were denied, allowing evidence to remain a focal point of the case.

Witnesses testified about the overwhelming smell in a garbage truck, linking it to Cozzi’s body in the Florida heat. Searches of the landfill where the garbage truck dumped its load failed to recover Cozzi’s remains due to the immense volume of waste.

The prosecution continues to present evidence before Judge Joseph Bulone. Kosowski’s trial, which began on September 14, is set to resume shortly, with pivotal decisions yet to unfold.
