Ashley Dupré Reflects on Past Controversies

Ashley Dupré, Alix Earle’s stepmother, has chosen to confront her past rather than avoid it. Alix rose to fame on TikTok, building a large following by sharing her personal experiences, including her family’s complex history that became tabloid news when she was young.

Ashley became a national figure in 2008 when she was linked to the then-Governor of New York, Eliot Spitzer, in a prostitution scandal, leading to his resignation. In an essay for Elle, she recounted being approached at 19 with the offer of substantial money in exchange for going on dates with influential men. Initially declining, she later reconsidered, driven by a desire for financial independence and escape from a survival mindset.

“At 19, while working as a cocktail waitress, a man approached me and told me I could make $1,000 an hour going on dates with high-profile men. My first answer was no, but I kept his card. Eventually, I made the call. I could spend paragraphs explaining why. I was young. I wanted money and independence. I’d spent years operating in survival mode and had become very good at compartmentalizing. But ultimately, I made the call. It was my decision.”

Ashley managed her escort activities discreetly for two years until the FBI confronted her, revealing that one of her clients was the Governor of New York. The ensuing media frenzy was overwhelming for her.

Soon, my stage name and face were on the front page of The New York Post. There was an almost ridiculous irony to it,” she recalled. “I had come to New York City wanting to be noticed, and suddenly everyone noticed me – for the one thing I never wanted anyone to know.”

Ashley acknowledges her past missteps without minimizing her role. She maintains that while context does not absolve actions, she is responsible for her reckless and selfish decisions.

Her relationship with Alix’s father, TJ Earle, was exposed months after the Spitzer scandal. They met unexpectedly and quickly bonded, despite TJ being married. Ashley recognizes the pain their affair caused his family, especially Alisa, Alix, and Ashtin.

Alix, unaware of the situation at the time, later recalled how the media attention disrupted her childhood. Learning about her father’s affair with Ashley through online searches impacted her deeply. Alix described it as feeling like her life had been a lie.

Ashley and TJ married in 2013. The repercussions of their affair extended into Alix’s childhood, affecting her social interactions as friends’ parents were wary of her household. Alix also struggled with accepting her father’s relationship with Ashley, feeling obligated to respect someone she had conflicting emotions about.

She reflects on her past without shame, acknowledging that while she might not repeat all her past decisions, they are part of her journey. She emphasizes the importance of growth and change, advocating that accountability allows room for transformation.
