U.S. and China to Discuss AI Transparency

Officials from the United States and China are set to discuss increasing transparency around artificial intelligence at a summit taking place in Washington this week. The talks aim to establish a clearer framework for handling national security incidents related to AI.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent mentioned the potential development of a “notification mechanism” dedicated to tracking and managing these incidents. The focus is on fostering better communication and cooperation between the two nations in the realm of AI technologies.

This meeting follows a prior engagement in New York, where Bessent, along with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, met with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. These discussions are paving the way for the upcoming summit involving U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
