Star Meat Delivery Inc. Recalls Over 167,000 Pounds of Meat

Star Meat Delivery Inc. is recalling approximately 167,639 pounds of raw beef, pork, and goat due to lack of federal inspection, according to a U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) alert issued on Tuesday. The Class I recall indicates that these products bear a false USDA mark of inspection, posing a serious health hazard with the potential for adverse health consequences or death.

Consumers are advised to avoid products marked with “EST. 1363,” as these are deemed unsafe. Recalls such as this one have been frequent in 2023, often due to potential damage, contamination, or undeclared allergens. Recently, there was a recall of J. HIGGS brand potato chips for possibly containing undeclared soy, which can cause allergic reactions.

Details on the Recalled Products

The recalled products, distributed under the A&D Foods label, were produced on various dates before Tuesday. They were distributed in bulk to restaurant and retail locations nationwide. Packaging involved vacuum-sealed bags placed in cardboard boxes. Some retail locations might have altered the original packaging, impacting visible labels.

FSIS confirms no reported injuries or illnesses related to this recall. Listed products include:

Recent recalls heighten awareness of foodborne illnesses, such as salmonella and cyclospora, prompting careful monitoring.

Keith Schneider from the UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences noted that recalls signal a functioning food safety system, emphasizing identification, seriousness evaluation, and resolution to limit availability.

Schneider stated: “We cannot make food completely risk-free. Food is grown outdoors, handled by people, and often eaten raw. Some level of risk always exists. The important aspect is a system that identifies and resolves issues swiftly.”
