In Eagan, Minnesota, Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray has been cleared to return from the NFL concussion protocol. He will play this week in the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell announced on Monday that Murray will resume his role in the starting lineup. Previously, Carson Wentz filled in for Murray after his injury during the season opener against the Green Bay Packers and started last Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.
Murray’s first game for Minnesota on September 13 ended abruptly after just 11 plays. Packers safety Javon Bullard hit the side of Murray’s head, resulting in a concussion that forced him out of the game. In Murray’s absence, Wentz helped secure a 39-22 victory over the Packers, scoring 29 consecutive points to close that game. Wentz’s key plays were critical in the 9-3 win over the Bears, supported by a strong defense and effective running game, despite the rain.
Across two games, Wentz completed 23 of 39 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns. He was sacked six times but committed no turnovers.
In related news, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams narrowly avoided a severe hamstring injury, according to reports. The Bears continue to face challenges, and following a shortfall in their rally attempt, backup quarterback Tyson Bagent is prepared to step in for Williams.
