Teen Arrested in Penn State Student’s Murder; Second Suspect at Large

U.S. Marshals announced the arrest of a 16-year-old suspect in Colorado. This is related to the murder of Penn State student Billy Schmidt. Philadelphia police confirmed that both suspects, aged 16, will be charged as adults. The charges involve a robbery and shooting incident on June 6.

Kaiseem Smith, the second suspect, is still on the run. Authorities have issued a wanted poster to aid in his capture.

Simultaneously, police conducted a search for a gunman near the University of Notre Dame campus. Gunfire was reported in the Eddy Street Commons area. The search happened during Notre Dame’s game against Michigan State. The emergency alert system at the university stated the suspect was last spotted near the southern campus edge.

Those inside Notre Dame Stadium were told to stay put. Others on campus received instructions to shelter in place. The suspect was described as a heavy-set Black male wearing blue shorts, a black shirt, and one white shoe. St. Joseph County Dispatch got the initial call at 7:37 p.m., as reported by ABC57.

One individual was taken to a hospital. Authorities have not released details about their condition or the gunfire circumstances.
