Rob Reiner received a posthumous Emmy Award last weekend, honored as the best guest actor in a comedy series for his role in “The Bear.” This award follows nearly a year after his passing.
Reiner’s achievement in this category comes almost 50 years after his first Emmy win for his supporting role in the iconic Norman Lear sitcom, “All in the Family.” The 48-year gap between these awards marks the longest in the Television Academy’s history, previously held by his father, Carl Reiner.
In “The Bear,” Reiner played Albert Schnurr, a restaurant consultant, bringing depth to the frenetic series set in the food industry. The win was announced during the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony on September 6, accepted on his behalf by Wendi McLendon-Covey from ABC’s “The Goldbergs,” as the audience offered a standing ovation.
This makes Reiner the first performer to receive a posthumous Emmy for an on-camera role since Raúl Juliá’s recognition in 1995 for “The Burning Season.” Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner tragically lost their lives in December at their Los Angeles home.
The Emmy ceremony continues its tradition of honoring television’s great performers, with this achievement adding to Rob Reiner’s distinguished legacy in entertainment.
