NFL Player Honors 9/11 Anniversary in Military Dress

Pregame fashion in the NFL has become a spectacle, with players’ outfits drawing media attention. Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Landon Robinson stood out in Week 1 for his unique attire.

Robinson, a graduate of the Naval Academy and former defensive tackle for the Navy, attended the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wearing his full dress uniform. His attire was not for show but marked respect for the 25th anniversary of 9/11, coinciding with NFL’s Sunday tributes.

President Donald Trump acknowledged Robinson’s contribution to football during a ceremony in March 2026, awarding the Commander-in-Chief Trophy to the Navy Midshipmen at the White House.

Robinson earned a degree in cyber operations in May 2026 and serves as a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps. A provision allows a select number of service-academy athletes to join professional sports while fulfilling military obligations. This enables him to play for Cincinnati while serving in the reserves.

The Bengals made Robinson their first service-academy draft pick since 1968, selecting him in the seventh round of April’s draft. He assured the team of his commitment to a 10-year reserve service that won’t disrupt his NFL career, though a return to active duty remains possible.

Robinson, alongside Navy Midshipmen quarterback Blake Horvath, celebrated winning the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in January 2026. His stature, standing 6-foot and weighing 295 pounds, did not deter him from competing and securing a roster spot. He attributes his leadership and discipline to his Naval Academy experience.

Though inactive for Sunday’s game, Robinson’s presence on the Bengals’ 53-man roster as an undersized, late-round draft choice is a commendable accomplishment.
