Ransom Notes Surface in Nancy Guthrie Investigation

The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of television host Savannah Guthrie, continues to unfold with new developments. Alleged kidnappers have demanded $4 million in Bitcoin, claiming that Nancy Guthrie ‘perished’ following her abduction. The release of new ransom notes and additional evidence is providing the authorities with fresh leads as the case moves forward.

NBC has increased security measures at the ‘Today’ show studio in Manhattan, following co-host Craig Melvin’s encounter with an intruder and the unresolved kidnapping of fellow co-host Savannah Guthrie’s mother. An insider reported to Page Six, stating that the security enhancements, though delayed, have brought a sense of relief to the staff.

“It was much-needed and took longer than people would have liked, but it does feel a lot better now,” an unnamed insider told Page Six.

The NBC staff appears willing to accommodate the increased security measures despite the inconvenience.

A background investigation linked the incident at the studio with the racial attack suspect targeting Craig Melvin. The individual was spotted in the background during the show’s morning broadcast on July 16, 2026, at Rockefeller Center in New York.

While specifics regarding the enhanced security protocols remain undisclosed, NBC has confirmed their review of the incident to ensure a secure environment for both employees and guests.

“We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios,” an NBC spokesperson said in July following the arrest of an intruder who breached secure premises.

A memo revealing changes to security procedures highlighted that studio guests can now accompany only two support personnel, such as stylists or spokespersons.

Nancy Guthrie, Savannah’s 84-year-old mother, was abducted from her home in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills on February 1. Her location remains unknown, suspects have not been publicly identified, and no arrests have occurred.

In a separate incident at the NBC studio, a homeless man, identified as Andrew Truelove, reportedly entered the set seeking Al Roker. Police apprehended him after he allegedly confronted Craig Melvin with racial slurs.

Security personnel intervened, and police took him into custody. Truelove has been charged with a hate crime involving burglary, a felony, and menacing, a misdemeanor.

A review of footage from the ‘Today’ show depicted a man resembling Truelove in the background during the 8 a.m. broadcast.

Truelove’s criminal record includes a conviction from 2007 for attempting to abduct an 8-year-old in Norfolk, Virginia. Currently, he faces various charges, including assault, trespassing, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief, according to New York court records.
