This issue worsened when Trump announced in August he would lift tariffs on 660 million pounds of foreign beef. These imports, made available at reduced prices in U.S. grocery stores, were quickly dubbed as ‘mystery meat’ due to their unknown origins.
Ranchers in areas like Ramsay, Montana, are concerned about the impact on the local economy. They worry about the competition from cheaper imported beef which could affect their livelihood.
Many ranchers feel ‘betrayed’ by these policy decisions and are considering their options at the polls this November, seeking leaders who will address their concerns and protect domestic agriculture.
