Pink Responds to Controversy Over Macklemore Remarks

Singer Pink recently addressed criticism over her reaction to Macklemore’s pro-Palestinian comments during Ed Sheeran’s MetLife Stadium shows. She provided a detailed statement clarifying her stance on Israel and Gaza and expressed concern that her initial posts were misunderstood.

Pink’s initial actions involved sharing content from StopAntisemitism, which accused Macklemore of promoting “anti-Israel propaganda” and suggested Jewish fans deserved apologies and refunds. The associated “snarky memes” led to significant backlash and calls for boycotts on social media platforms.

Pink’s Current Statement

After a week of controversy, Pink explained she had remained silent in her own words. She noted that her decision to repost criticism about Macklemore’s performance included phrases she would not have personally chosen. Responding with memes was her attempt to address the backlash, acknowledging that “a repost isn’t a statement, and a meme isn’t a spine.”

Pink further elaborated on her identity, stating, “I was born a Jew. I didn’t pick it, and I’ve never hidden it.” She emphasized that many people made assumptions about her beliefs without considering her previous statements. She recalled her stance from October 2023, declaring, “Hamas is a terrorist organization. Palestinians deserve a future that honors their humanity and their aspirations. Protecting innocent life comes first, everywhere, and nobody should ever celebrate the death of a child. Anybody’s child.” She referenced her decade-long role as a UNICEF ambassador, acknowledging her grief for the loss of lives on both sides.

Highlighting the complexity of the issue, Pink asserted she would not condense the intricacies of war into an Instagram caption, nor recite slogans simply to regain followers.
