The Girl Scouts of the USA plans to shake things up with their 2027 cookie season by offering a new treat for dogs. These dog-specific cookies, known as Patch Pals, are blueberry muffin-flavored treats developed in partnership with BARK, the creators of BarkBox.
Features of Patch Pals
Each dog cookie is designed with one of four patch patterns symbolizing classic Girl Scout activities. Ben Donati, an emergency veterinarian in Silver Spring, Maryland, expressed his approval, noting the growing trend of pet owners regarding their animals as family members. He sees this as a natural development.
Donati pointed out that while it’s exciting for dogs to partake in the Girl Scout cookie experience, moderation is essential. Treats should constitute no more than 10% of a pet’s diet.
“So, probably a light bulb went off in someone’s mind that, why not sell to the four-legged member of the family,”
Healthy Canine Diets
Donati emphasized the importance of not substituting treats like Patch Pals for a balanced diet. Overfeeding can lead to health problems, such as obesity and joint issues. Owners are advised to use part of the dog’s regular kibble as rewards to avoid overindulgence.
Behavioral implications also exist. Donati warned that if treats are given during incorrect moments, they might reinforce unwanted behaviors. He highlighted that many treat their dogs as full-fledged family members.
Launch Details
The new addition is expected to bring joy and excitement to sellers and buyers alike. Patch Pals will be available for sale starting January 12, 2027. Donati welcomes the initiative, believing it will enhance the cookie-selling experience.
