A tragic incident occurred at Miami International Airport when an Amazon cargo jet ran off the runway during its landing attempt on Sunday afternoon. The crash resulted in the jet overrunning the runway and colliding with a van on airport property.
The van was used to transport individuals to planes for cleaning. Inside were five people who lost their lives in the crash. The plane also breached a fence and continued onto a local street where it destroyed an SUV.
In addition to the five fatalities, five other people sustained injuries. Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz reported that the pilot and co-pilot involved in the crash were released from the hospital. However, two individuals remain in critical condition, while another is stable.
Those who passed away were aged between 47 and 75. This tragic event has drawn significant attention to safety protocols at airports.
