The New York Jets have experienced coaching changes and a lack of playoff appearances in recent years. To address these issues, the franchise is focused on establishing basic competency. Head coach Aaron Glenn is starting his second season, and Frank Reich has taken on the role of offensive coordinator. Veteran quarterback Geno Smith has returned to the team. The Jets are determined to leave their transitional phase behind and become a competitive team in the AFC East.

Challenges from the Previous Season

In 2025, the Jets faced significant challenges. Under the leadership of first-year head coach Aaron Glenn, they finished last in the AFC East with a record of 3–14. Despite the team’s struggles, Breece Hall stood out by achieving 1,065 rushing yards. However, the team faced difficulties towards the season’s end, losing their final five games by significant margins after trading key players. The Jets struggled offensively, rotating through three starting quarterbacks without notable success, and dealt with injuries to star receiver Garrett Wilson. On defense, the team set an unfavorable NFL record by not recording a single interception.

Offseason Moves

To improve, Glenn made adjustments by hiring Frank Reich as the new offensive coordinator and bringing in Brian Duker for the defense. General manager Darren Mougey took advantage of available cap space and draft picks to make strategic changes. The Jets’ quarterback lineup was refreshed with the addition of veteran Geno Smith and draft pick Cade Klubnik. While these changes were intended to address team weaknesses, their effectiveness remains to be seen.

In free agency, the Jets parted ways with quarterbacks Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor. They made trades to enhance their secondary by acquiring Minkah Fitzpatrick. The team also cleared some depth pieces.

Current Roster Dynamics

The team is aiming to improve upon last year’s performance. Geno Smith’s previous experience in Las Vegas was disappointing, but he offers a potential improvement in passing abilities compared to the team’s previous quarterback lineup. With Smith under center, Breece Hall could find more opportunities to excel. However, the offensive line remains a concern, ranked 21st by PFF.

Defensively, the addition of No. 2 pick David Bailey alongside Joseph Ossai and Will McDonald IV is expected to boost the pass rush. Demario Davis continues to lead the middle of the defense. Achieving one interception this season would already mark an improvement compared to the previous year.

Betting Outlook

Despite these efforts, expectations for significant improvement remain cautious. The defensive line ranks 29th in the league, a challenge for a team hoping to achieve more wins. While progress is anticipated, bettors might consider setting modest expectations for the Jets’ win total this season.
