Victims and Officers Identified in Minneapolis Apartment Shooting

Minnesota authorities have released information about the victims from the recent shooting in a Minneapolis apartment that resulted in two civilian deaths and injuries to two police officers.

Civilian Victims and Their Identities

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) identified the civilians as Dale Henry Spry, 63, and Muse A. Afrah, 61. Both were believed to have lived in the apartment complex.

Details of the Incident

The events unfolded when Carlton Neal Johnson II, 35, fired shots in the apartment before he was killed in a gunfire exchange with police. A preliminary autopsy showed multiple gunshot wounds caused Johnson’s death, which was ruled a homicide.

Injured Officers

The two injured Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) officers are Joseph Michnowski, a five-year veteran, and Yahye Ahmed, with nearly two years of service. Ahmed was discharged from the hospital, while Michnowski remained hospitalized due to his injuries, including a gunshot wound to the leg.

A third officer, Ernest Boateng, sustained injuries unrelated to gunfire. He was cut by glass while accessing a locked police vehicle, and he was treated and released the same day.

Gunman’s Motives and Actions

Johnson was reportedly facing eviction from his residence at the time. The shooting began during a domestic child custody situation involving a woman with a history with Johnson. He reportedly shot the woman outside, went inside, and targeted more victims on the ninth floor.

Ongoing Investigation

The BCA reported that at least one officer, identified as Liban Mohamed Ibrahim, discharged a firearm during the incident. Investigators continue to determine if other officers were involved in the gunfire.
