Police Respond to Shooting Incident in Minneapolis

A shooting near 15 East Grant Street in Minneapolis has left multiple people injured, including two police officers. A city alert advised residents to avoid the area as authorities responded to the incident.

Reports suggest that the suspect involved is down, supported by scanner audio. A high-ranking official informed WCCO that the injured officers are expected to recover.

The scene at Nicollet and Grant witnessed a large presence of law enforcement agencies beyond the Minneapolis Police Department. Officers and vehicles from St. Louis Park, Edina, the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota State Patrol, transit police, and sheriff’s deputies were involved in the response. Special agents from St. Paul’s ATF field division also arrived.

“My public safety team is responding to a shooting that took place downtown Minneapolis this afternoon. State officials are on the ground to support local law enforcement and we will share more information as it becomes available,” said Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

FBI Director Kash Patel expressed awareness of the incident and pledged resources to assist local authorities.

The focus of the response centered on an apartment complex where officers armed with long guns monitored the building. Two armored SWAT vehicles and ambulances lined the area, prepared for urgent action. Stretchers were brought out, with some victims appearing to suffer leg injuries, though the conditions of others remain unclear.

WCCO’s Conor Wight observed activity around the eighth floor of the complex, where residents remained in their units as police assessed the situation.

Abdiwakil Mohamed, a local resident, described witnessing the event while driving on La Salle Avenue. He reported hearing three gunshots from a rifle and saw a police officer shot in their squad car. As the shooter fired from a high vantage point, Mohamed witnessed police officers responding rapidly from all directions.
