Ukrainian Investigation into Deadly Drone Strike Near Kyiv

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that authorities have launched an investigation into alleged official negligence following a deadly Russian drone strike on a warehouse near Kyiv. The attack caused a significant explosion and resulted in the deaths of at least 27 people.

Zelenskyy highlighted regulations that prohibit storing ammunition near residential areas. However, he did not specify what led to the explosion or what the warehouse contained at the time of the attack.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the regional military administration, reported damage to at least 50 residential buildings due to the strike. The attack ignited a large fire that spread to nearby homes and a restaurant, forcing hundreds to evacuate.

Among those killed was Taras Didych, the head of the Dmytrivka community, who was assisting in rescues. Zelenskyy assured appropriate measures would follow.

The office of Ukraine’s prosecutor general noted that a drone impacted the grounds of an enterprise in Myla, leading to a large-scale fire and subsequent detonations. The investigation will focus on whether explosive materials stored on-site were legally placed there and if the unnamed company had required permits.

Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky voiced regret over unheeded lessons from a previous attack in July, when a strike on a munitions depot in Vyshneve revealed serious negligence by a state-owned company. This company failed to follow safety standards despite the proximity to residential areas.
