Investigation Continues into the Death of Flight Attendant Jenny Lupton

The family of Jenny Lupton has disclosed the final text message sent by the 50-year-old flight attendant before her tragic death during a layover in Hawaii. Lupton, hailing from Moore, Oklahoma, was found deceased on August 20 following a fall from a hotel balcony during her stay in Waikiki. Her family has urged for a comprehensive investigation, asserting they do not believe she died by suicide. The Honolulu Police Department has affirmed that their inquiry into Lupton’s death remains ongoing.

Enjoying Her Time in Hawaii

Hannah Lupton, Jenny’s niece, shared that her aunt appeared to be enjoying her visit to Hawaii. She engaged in activities like dancing and getting a tattoo, and she was planning outings with colleagues shortly before her death. Hannah mentioned that her aunt’s last text to another flight attendant was, “What are we doing tomorrow?” This message was sent after the final communication her family received from her, around 11:40 p.m. on August 19 in Hawaii.

Emergency responders arrived at the Hilton Hawaiian Village at approximately 7:15 a.m. on August 20, where Lupton was pronounced dead.

Police Are Investigating

On August 24, the Honolulu Police Department issued a statement emphasizing the ongoing nature of the investigation into Lupton’s death, with no conclusions reached yet regarding the cause. The medical examiner’s office has yet to disclose the official cause or manner of death.

This is a thorough investigation that will take time, the police department said. Detectives are conducting numerous interviews, reviewing and recovering surveillance video, and examining evidence as part of the investigative process.

The police also noted they would restrict certain information releases to maintain the investigation’s integrity and highlighted the need for privacy for Lupton’s family during this challenging period.

Hannah Lupton conveyed to SFGate that the confirmed detail is her aunt’s fall from the hotel balcony. She added, Our family does believe, though, that it was not suicidal, so we are worried that there was foul play involved, either that or just a freak accident.

Family, Friends Pay Tribute

Friends and family have expressed their tributes to Lupton. Hannah Lupton described her as a light at every event and someone who left an indelible mark. Everyone in Moore seemed to know my aunt, she wrote on Facebook, sharing stories about her aunt that brought laughter, tears, and gratitude.

Travis Rodriguez initiated a GoFundMe to assist her family, including her 15-year-old son. He shared his reflections with Newsweek, stating that Lupton had a significant impact on many lives and would be forever remembered.

Jenny’s legacy lives on in the memories being shared, in the tears being shed, in the people who have come together, and in the love that continues to surround her family. Jenny was loved. Her life mattered. And she will never be forgotten, Rodriguez said.

Southwest Airlines also extended its condolences. In a statement to Newsweek, they expressed sorrow over the loss of their colleague and assured support to Lupton’s family.
